Climbing Higher as Latest Crane Jump Advances Omaha’s Iconic Skyscraper

From Barely Above Ground to Reaching New Heights

As we celebrate another major milestone for the Mutual of Omaha Headquarters, it’s astounding to see how far we’ve come. Just over a year ago, in January 2024, the site was barely above ground. The self-climber was assembled and ready to kick into high gear, and the first columns were poured at ground level. Fast forward to today, and the project has reached Level 29 of the tower, almost 400 feet high! We are now working on the top floor of the podium (Level 16), with enough concrete poured to pave a sidewalk stretching past Kansas City.

We’re also making great strides on the exterior, having started installing concrete column covers on the podium. The top of the self-climber now sits at 382 feet, with the yellow crane towering at 554 feet. The exterior hoist is visible from Gene Leahy Mall, currently reaching Level 13.

Progress and Milestones

The progress of this iconic skyscraper is not just about height — it’s about transforming Omaha’s skyline and reshaping the future of the city. We’re proud to share two timelapse videos: one capturing the recent crane jump, and another chronicling the entire project journey from bare ground to the soaring structure we see today.

Looking ahead to 2025, there are several exciting milestones on the horizon:

  • Winter: Concrete podium tops out
  • Spring: Structural steel erection begins with +/- 500 feet of the tower to sit on top of the concrete podium
  • Summer: Enclosure begins and the West (blue) Tower Crane will be demobilized
  • Fall: Concrete core tops out
  • End of 2025: Structural steel tops out

Shaping Omaha’s Future

The future home of Mutual of Omaha will be more than just a stunning addition to the cityscape. It will feature state-of-the-art facilities and enhanced connectivity to downtown, symbolizing Omaha’s growth and ambition. As a beacon of progress, this skyscraper will become a hub for innovation and opportunity, transforming not only the skyline but also the way we experience the city.
